Toast
Buttered before it goes in, 380°F for 4 minutes. The butter browns the slice and weighs it down so the fan cannot lift it into the element.
Every bread and dough I have baked in a basket, from four minute toast to a crusty no-knead boule that rises overnight. Unlike cookies, breads do not share one temperature: blistered flatbreads want the machine at 400°F, soft enriched rolls bake as low as 300°F, and deep quick bread loaves sit in between so the center can catch up with the crust. Each card carries its own number and the reason for it. Converting a family recipe? Start with the air fryer calculator.

A basket is not one oven setting for every dough. What the dough is made of decides how hot it can go before the outside finishes ahead of the middle.
| Dough | Setting | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Thin flatbreads | 400°F, preheated 5 min | Speed is softness. Naan blisters and pita puffs in 3 to 4 minutes, before the inside can dry out |
| Crusty loaves | 380°F under foil | The no-knead boule needs real heat for its crust, and the foil dome traps its own steam first |
| Enriched rolls | 300 to 330°F | Milk, butter, sugar and egg brown fast, so dinner rolls go as low as 300°F |
| Quick bread loaves | 310 to 325°F | Deep batter in a small pan; zucchini and lemon bread also bake tented so the center catches up |
| Canned and frozen dough | 320 to 330°F | Below the oven number on the package, so a tall frozen biscuit or a canned cinnamon roll bakes through before the top overbrowns |
Breads fail in two places: a pan or loaf that does not fit the basket with room for air, and pulling it before the center is done. These four tools settle the first, and a cheap thermometer settles the second. They are free, with no signup.
Every number on every card came out of these. If a loaf browned before the middle set, a roll came out dense, or the fan blew your dough around, the answer is almost certainly in one of them.
